US court approves Bristol-Myers Squibb's $125-million settlement in Plavix lawsuit
by Mark Todoruk

A US district court gave final approval to a $125-million settlement between Bristol-Myers Squibb and shareholders who launched a lawsuit in 2007 over disclosures related to the drugmaker's efforts to settle a patent dispute with Apotex over Plavix (clopidogrel).

The consolidated shareholder action concerns a settlement between Bristol-Myers Squibb and Apotex in 2006 that allowed the generic drugmaker to market a version of Plavix. The litigation alleged Bristol-Myers Squibb did not disclose that it agreed to relinquish certain legal rights and that it entered an oral side agreement with Apotex.
